Jeff Reed: Crew Chief
I am the Transmission Department Manager at TCI where I have worked for the last 23 years. After high school in 1984, I started working in the Valvebody Department. After a few months, I started building transmissions. During that time, I traveled to many NHRA races working the race trailer and repairing transmissions. After about 10 years, I was promoted to Manager of the Transmission Department. I got into drag racing when I started to work at TCI.
My boss at the time was a racer and I started going to the races with him and working on his car on weekends and after work. Since then, I have raced at a lot of the local tracks. Now I race on the weekends that John is not racing. Since 2004 when John built his NMRA Drag Radial car, our goal was to WIN! No matter what it took to do this.
In 2005 it was our goal to be in the top 5 cars and we were #5 in 2005. Over the winter we tested alot of new parts and our goal in 2006 was to win the championship. All of the hard work really paid off and we won the championship in convincing fashion. The 2007 season presented a whole new set of challenges - new chassis, new engine and not much time to do any testing because the car was in the chassis shop. We did manage about 20 hits before the season started and it paid off big time. We won the season opener and defended our championship in 2007.
I would like to say this is a wonderful thing to be a Crew Chief of a 2-time World Champion. I have a very good wife that allows me do what I enjoy doing the most which is race. One of mine and John's saying is "IF WE DON'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES WE ARE GOING TO BE HARD TO BEAT" Hopefully 2008 will be as good or better than the past years. I'm looking forward to being a part of a Championship Team for a long time.
